VERBASCUM  (Mullein), needs a well-drained sunny location.  If planted in a windy site, stake plants before they become too dense.  Good cut flower.

Smile'Flower of Scotland', buds opens a rich, wine-red and mature to mauve-pink.  6-8" tall.

x. ‘Jackie’, buff-peach spikes June-Aug.  Spikes reach 24” tall. 

 ‘Jackie in Yellow’, buttery yellow blooms with soft red centers in June-Aug.  18” tall.

 ‘Southern Charm’, long blooming, pastel apricots, creams, and pinks.  Flower spikes to 18”.

 Sugar Plum’, beautiful plum colored, long lasting spikes June-Oct.  Flower spikes to 18”. 

 

VERNONIA fasciculata, (Ironweed), large, iridescent red-violet, flat-topped flowers on tall, strong stems, mid-summer-autumn.  3-4’ tall.  Native.

noveboracensis (New York Ironweed), Native!  6-7’ tall.  Magenta purple flowers Aug-Oct.  Sun, moist soil.

VERONICA (Speedwell) Late spring to summer bloomers, flowers form spikes in blue, pink or white, full sun, zones 4-10.

peduncularis 'Georgia Blue', round, true blue flowers on spreading low growing bushes to 12".

prostrata, ‘Aztec Gold’, small, 3-4” bright gold foliage.  6” lavender-blue spikes in spring.  Best color in full sun.

spicata,  ‘Foxy Lady’, bright fuchsia pink and white flowers on 12-15” spikes.  Keep deadheaded for longer bloom.

VERONICASTRUM  virginicum, strong vertical stems 4-6” tall.  Spikes of tiny pale blue or white flowers in late summer.
