MALVA  sylvestris 'Zebrinus', 3' stalks bear multiple 2" flowers striped raspberry purple over pale pink. The stripes pinwheel out from the center, blooms all summer

MARSHALLIA grandiflora (Barbara’s Buttons), A rare native.  Neat basal rosettes have 7” leaves.  Single 1 ¼” pink daisy heads.  Sun-part shade.  Damp soil.

«MAZUS reptans, excellent, low groundcover or rock garden plant.  Purplish-blue flowers. Full sun-Pt. Shade.  Good moist soil.

‘Alba’, white flowers. 

Mertensia

«MERTENSIA virginica (Virginia Bluebell), zones 3-8, shady woodland conditions, blue flowers  April-May, goes dormant in summer, interplant with ferns, 18-24".  Native.

     

 

 

MISCANTHUS (see Grasses)

MONARDA  didyma (Bee-balm or Bergamot), zones 4-9, fragrant mint-like foliage and tubular flowers arrange in a circular form, 30-42" x 18", full sun and moist soil, extremely vigorous growers.

 ‘Colrain Red’, 36”, excellent red.  Excellent powdery mildew resistant variety.

’Fireball’, deep red flowers July-Aug.  30”.

'Jacob Kline', huge, deep rose-red flowers with dark red bracts appear mid-summer.  Vigorous stems produce rich dark green foliage that is mildew free!!

‘Little Siberia’, 30”, clean pink blooms in July.  Mildew resistant.

Smile'Pardon My Purple', dark purple flowers.  Compact variety to 9-12".

Smile'Purple Rooster', large, true royal purple flowers.  3' tall.

‘Raspberry Wine’, clear wine-red flowers.  Very mildew resistant.  3-4’.

fitulosa, (Wild Bergamot), pink to lavender flowers in June-July.  Tolerates drier soils than M. didyma.

SmileMUKDENIA rossii, 'Karasuba', native to the mountains of China.  Medium green palmate foliage that has a bronze red cast in summer, changing to rich shades of red late summer in to autumn.  Panicles of white bell flowers bloom on 16" leafless stems in early spring.  Grows 12" tall.  Great groundcover for shady, woodland areas!

 «MYOSOTIS (Forget-Me-Nots), tiny blue or pink flowers in spring, partial shade to full sun ‘Rosylva’, Radiant pink flowers on very compact plants.

    ‘Victoria Indigo’, Intense, deep blue flowers.  Compact habit.

  J palustris, ‘Unforgettable’, variegated green and cream foliage.  Bright blue flowers May-June.  8”.
